Band begins in 6th grade here in Verona. Some children get an early start by coming to the 4 week summer band sessions. By the time October comes, we're all moving ahead together, learning new notes, fingerings and techniques to make great sounds!
Playing time outside of class is necessary to give the player an opportunity to hear themselves, and improve their technique. All instruments should go home on weekends, and as many week nights as possible.
To give 6th graders an opportunity to form good playing habits - you will be asked to sign a practice record every week. These records will be handed in on Mondays.
Because I know practicing at home isn't always easy - there are opportunities to practice at school as well.
- Students may come to school early to practice down in the music wing any time between 7:30 and 8:15 ANY or EVERY day except late start
Mondays (if the Stoner or VAIS bus comes by your house, your child may take it to come to practice, but you need to let me know so I can
notify the bus company)
- Students may stay after school until 4:30 on any day but Friday (there is a late bus to drop students off at their usual bus stops.)
- Of COURSE, students may always take instruments home to practice, but they need to be back the next school day!
For optimal learning and playing, I expect 3 - 5 practice session each week - from 10 - 20 minutes each time. If you need information on your child taking an early Stoner Prairie bus to come to practice before school - please contact me!
