Savanna Oaks Bands Wish List
From big to small!
There are lots of things that band rooms need to survive. Some of them you might have lying around the house! If you have any of these things that you would like to find homes for, we would love to have them!
As with everything that runs on a budget these days, we have a slightly LOWER budget than we did 15 years ago, roughly 35 more students, and 127 school owned instruments. That might sound like a not-too-bad place to be, except that whenever someone donates an instrument, it has to be maintained. To give my administrators an idea of how costs of maintainance have gone up, I found a bill for a clarinet partial repad from 10 years ago ($59) and one from this year ($88). I also found bills for chemical flushes for our school owned brass instruments - recommended every year, but at this point, only done once every three years, when a student gets done using it for middle school. In 2000, it cost $65. Now for a comparable instrument, about $120. Many students rent instruments from a local music store. But kids who play really expensive instruments ( euphoniums, tubas, horns, bassoons, oboes, bass clarinets, bari saxes) find that music stores don't rent those instruments. Plus, our number of kids who can't afford to rent an instrument are also rising as our population changes. Thank you to all of you who have donated instruments so these kids can play! The philosophy of Savanna Oaks Middle School is that if a child would like to try something new, they should have that opportunity if at all possible. Thanks for helping us back up that philosophy!
Here's our list of things we could use!
Old Sheets and Towels for upkeeping instruments
Music books for any band instrument
Any supplies you have - valve oil, cork grease, reeds (UN-used please!) mutes...cleaning equipment
Old instrument cases in good shape
Music Technology( Guitar Hero, Wii music etc)
CD players in working condition
Instruments! We always need flutes, clarinets, saxes, horns, bassoons and percussion equipment.
Donations for new equipment and/or repair of the stuff we have.
THANKS FOR THINKING OF US!
