There are lots of things that can make practicing, and music more exciting!
On line: You tube! Look at lots of videos of people playing your instrument. Some will be great, and others will be...not so great. What makes
the difference?
Noteflight - a free composition program saved online, so it doesn't need space on your computer, and you can get it from any
computer, anywhere! It also has a "browse" section, where you can look at things other people have done and marked as
"public". This is a great place to find music to play!
8notes.com - another free site, that gives great tutorials on note names, free music, guitar chords, jokes about music and any
number of other things
An on-line metronome. It'll help you keep a steady beat!
An on-line tuner - to see if you are playing in tune.
Smart music - an interactive playing program that has all sorts of band music, beginner books and solos. This does have a fee. We
buy 4 or 5 here for school, and kids can use it here. Our original license costs around $125. But because we have it, they
will give you a student copy for somewhere around $35. This one is especvially great to use for our 6th grade band
members.
Themusicintereactive.com another mostly free site. The part I like is called "Staffwars". It's a note identification game. It has two
editions. The first edition shows you a note, and you type in the note name. If you get it right, the game speeds up. The
second edition you actually PLAY the note on your instrument ( your computer has to have a mic) and it will tell you if you're
right or wrong. Lots of action in this game!
Flashnote Derby: a $1 app to help learn note names.
Rhythm Cat - a free app to practice rhythm
